State Tournament 2010

Our family with the rest of the entire Wall community, including many folks, like ourselves, who have left the area, journeyed to Austin, Texas this past weekend for the 2010 Girls State Basketball tournament. The Wall Lady Hawks played Poth on Friday and won and then faced Brock for the final game on Saturday. It was a well played and well fought game, but Brock came out on top on Saturday. Regardless, I am very proud of how the girls played. In particular, I am especially proud of my niece, Nikki, who is a junior on the team. She is so much fun to watch and such an athlete. It was a great weekend with family and friends and more importantly, we watched some great basketball! Thanks Nikki and the rest of the team! What an awesome experience for you and the rest of us.

After the Friday game, Nikki made the sports page in the San Antonio paper...

And after Saturday's game, Nikki made the sports page again in the Austin paper...

Here are the links and images from the newspapers. We love you Nikki!

AUSTIN — Twenty minutes after Poth's state-championship hopes had come to an end Friday, senior Erica Moczygemba sat in a media room inside the Erwin Center and laughed.

“To go down this bad, lose by this much — you have to laugh about that,” she said.

There were tears, too, in the moments following Wall's 56-32 victory in the Class 2A state semifinals, but those had already come and gone.......

Brock's Kamy Cole gets double-teamed into losing the ball on her dribble against Wall's Devon Wilde, left, and Nikki Niehues, right, during first half action.
